Enchanter Homebase

TheRunes.net

December 28, 2007

Last week I posted on the forums that I was going to begin resurrecting the main site. Most of you know that the last couple of years have been very trying for me personally, the loss of my father after 2 years of illness, and this year I had a spinal cord injury that has left me a paraplegic (hopefully temporarily) and as a result TheRunes.net has suffered neglect. Thankfully the forums have remained active thanks to our amazing community!

Getting the guides updated, getting the forums cleaned of obsolete stickies all part of the plan. Our long time friend Vizier has written a new guide on AC, Avoidance and Defensive Skills as well as two new strats. One for Bloodmoon Keep and one for The Steam Factory.

Vizier also suggested perhaps a monthly or semi-monthly report on current happenings as they relate to the Enchanter class. What a great idea!! So without further ado I present to you our first report. Who better than Vizier himself!? /salute

Will SoF revive the Enchanter class??

Greetings Enchanters!

As some of you may know, the Enchanter class has quietly undergone an overhaul during the last three expansions. Now with Secrets of Faydwer finally live, Enchanters have been given some very unique and powerful new tools to enhance our already robust spell repertoire.

First a brief history of some of the changes made over the last few years:

TSS was really the turning point for the Enchanter class, which had been suffering through massive DPS reduction via the infamous OoW charm nerf. TSS finally relaxed the nerf enough and added appropriate content so that charm, once again, became a worthwhile tool.

TSS also offered an excellent spell acquisition system which allowed us to purchase our critical rank 1's from the vendor as well as a 9th spell gem. And while those changes aren't class specific, they benefited Enchanter's more than most classes, since Enchanters simply cant function without the appropriate spells for the level of mobs they hunt.

Another critical spell line that was revived in TSS was the single target spin stun. Sometime later, our stun level cap was increased across the board to be equal with our mez level cap for ALL our stun lines. This change happened quietly, but was quite a powerful addition. Enchanters are once again the king of stuns.

TBS was another step forward for Enchanters. With the addition of a new, unresistable, fast casting mez line called Perplexing Flash, Enchanters of all types gained a powerful tool. Charmers use Flash as a fast, reliable tool for recharm, while mezzers can abuse Flash in many ways as well. TBS also provided appropriate content for all of our CC abilities, and they unlocked charm in every zone, the first expansion to do that in my memory.

Which brings us to the newest expansion, Secrets of Faydwer, where enchanters have been given a completely new AA that is so powerful it has become class defining. Actually its two AAs, named Beguiler's Banishment (BB) and Beguiler's Directed Banishment (BDB).

BDB is a single target knock back + root + mem blur. With a fast 1.5 sec cast time, a 6 second cool down and no level restriction, this AA essentially allows us to CC unmezzable targets. And that's really just the tip of the iceberg. This tool has many uses, in all aspects of enchanter game play, and new tactics are being discovered every day.

BB is a AE cone version of BDB, on a 12 sec cooldown. Although its somewhat of a situational tool, since it currently hits targets through walls, its power is nonetheless impressive. This is your train stopper AA.

And while you may find yourself relying heavily on these aas by themselves, their real power is unlocked when you start using them in conjunction with all the other tools in our tool box. Beguiler's is a devastating weapon for pullers, charmers and CC specialists alike.

But will all of these changes be enough to revive the numbers of the rarest, and perhaps most powerful of all classes? Only time will tell, but one thing we all can agree upon is that these are certainly steps in the right direction.
